Q: When will XRay become a universal application?
A: I had been working on XRay II, which was going to be universal, for a few years but have been sidetracked by many issues and offline problems. Unfortunately, these issues have forced me to shelve any further plans for XRay or XRay II. Many capabilities of XRay will, in the near future, be available as plug-ins to the next version of Quay. Check that page, or on my blog, for news. XRay serial numbers will work for that version, too.
Q: Why doesn't XRay do batch operations on files?
A: Many people asked for that, it was on schedule for version 1.1, but I decided it wouldn't fit the current UI well. Still, XRay (from 1.0.8 on) does do batch changes to Type, Creator, and some other items.
Q: I'm setting labels for several files but the label colors don't show up in the Finder! When will you fix this bug?
A: The label attribute is stored correctly on HFS+ volumes, and many file browser will color icons accordingly. Retrospect, for instance, will recognize labels. The Mac OS X Finder has full label support from 10.3 on.
Q: Why don't you intercept command-I, or set a global hotkey for XRay?
A: There's a shortcut in the "Services" menu now... try Command-Shift-X. This may not work in all applications; I didn't want to intercept keystrokes or set a global hotkey.
Q: Command-Shift-X (or the contextual menu) don't work in the Finder!
A: You must log out and log back in again after running XRay for the first time, to make the system aware of these features. Sorry, that's a system limitation. If you're on an Intel Mac, the contextual menu won't work, as XRay 1.1 isn't an universal application. Use Command-Shift-X instead.
Q: I wish to help you make a localized version of XRay for <language>!
A: XRay 1.x is not set up to be localized at all.
Q: I have registered XRay at Kagi and the serial number they sent doesn't work!
A: Kagi serial numbers work only with XRay version 1.0.5 on up. If you bought a serial number from Kagi before 1.0.5 came out, you managed to overlook a sentence on the Kagi site that said: "WARNING! This is a test page only. Do NOT use this page for purchase, as the supplied serial number will not work until further notice." In any case, the serial number should be working now - try it!
